Supply Chain Management Software

When running an industrial company, the supply chain may be the most crucial part of the entire operation. If a company’s supply chain is not running at its best possible rate, the company could be losing valuable resources and larger sums of over all revenue. Supply chain management software has made major advances in creating a more efficient production process.

When the software was first introduced, there were several flaws that made it less desirable and not very popular to implement. Many of the operations run by the software were separated and therefore required more software, time, and money to encompass them all under one system.2 Not being able to centralize operations often made running the supply chain production process much more complicated than it necessarily should be.1 Now, with the implementation of the Internet into the software’s networking systems, centralizing operations is easy and more efficient in the production process. With the use of the Internet and its connecting networks, companies are able to share information with all of its locations and departments as well as its customers, allowing them to keep track of transactions and order delivery.4

Supply chain management software is important in maintaining the manufacturer-retailer relationship. Before large corporations like Wal-Mart decided that maintaining a close relationship with its manufacturers would increase the over all efficiency and standards of the company as whole, supply chain management stopped when the orders were delivered.3 Now, retailers are able to track production of their products through supply chain management software, which allows for a more efficient use of time and space within their retailer locations .2 Retailers can now plan orders and shelf stocking according to the data they receive through the supply chain management software and its networking capabilities.

One setback of the supply chain management software is its complicated programming which can sometimes be too innovative for a company and its employees to handle. Employees may be required to modify their working habits to accommodate the changes imposed by the new software.5 Furthermore, employees with more experience in working with supply chain management software may be needed to help train current employees and ensure that the installation of the new programming runs more smoothly.2

With the supply chain management software, companies can assess previous transaction histories and company capability to deliver.1 From this, they can improve production formats and delivery times to customers. Also, companies can keep up with market changes with the software’s predictive capabilities that will assess and report what the company is able to do within its means as well as what it can do to make production improvements that will increase revenue return and customer satisfaction.4 Supply chain management software is also able to adapt to many different industries. Because each industry faces different complications and necessary requirements, having a software that is sensitive to these differences and challenges will make running an industry-specific company much more efficient.3

Supply chain management software is an extremely valuable asset to any company who’s looking to get ahead in the market. Once a company can get past the sometimes complicated nature of the software’s implementation and initial operation, it can gain a greater understanding of the process in which their supply and demand works. By gaining a stronger relationship with its retailers through supply chain management software, a company can run at a more efficient rate, thereby saving time and resources and increasing revenue and customer satisfaction.
